Maintenance Volunteer
Introduction
We urgently need help from a team of dedicated maintenance volunteers to help get our new farm ready for the horses. As a maintenance volunteer you’ll be responsible for repairing and restoring our new farm premise in Middlewich as part of a larger team. Jobs will include building and repairing fencing, carrying out basic DIY and creating a therapeutic space for the horses and service users. We’re looking for volunteers with experience or an interest in DIY and/ or gardening. Full induction training will be provided before work commences and volunteers will be fully supervised. As a maintenance volunteer you’ll also have the opportunity to access walk and talk therapy with our counsellor if this is something you’d benefit from.
This role gives you the chance to:
Volunteer Commitment: Our maintenance volunteers meet weekly on alternate Thursdays and Saturdays, between 10am and 4pm. The post is flexible, and you can attend as many or as few sessions as you choose.
It will be based at our new farm in Middlewich, post code CW10 OJX. Own transport to and from the premises will have to be arranged.
Is a DBS check required for this role?: No
Who is eligible?
This position is available to everyone, however we prioritise people who have experienced disadvantage in their lives. This might include people who have mental health problems, a learning disability, who are unemployed or have low skills levels, who have been homeless, people who are living on benefits or a low income, and people who are socially isolated. Unfortunately our insurance stipulates that we cannot currently accommodate people with substance misuse, addiction issues or alcoholism.
Volunteers need to be 16 years old or over.
Skills and Qualifications Required:
We are ideally looking for individuals with some of the following skills:
• DIY, including wood work, construction, repair work.
• Gardening, horticulture or land management.
• Manual handling.
If you don't have skills in these areas you can still apply. We want volunteers who are eager to learn and enthusiastic to get stuck in.
What support is available for the volunteer?:
Volunteers are given induction training and will be supported by staff from The Positive Herd Project throughout the day. No one will be asked to work unsupervised.
Volunteers are entitled to free walk and talk therapy with our accredited counsellor, if this is something they would benefit from.
We will provide refreshments and a COVID-safe environment to get out of the rain. We ask that volunteers bring their own lunch and come in suitable clothing.
