Adopt A Rescue Horse
So you're looking to get a new horse and want to adopt from The Positive Herd Project? That is great news, take a look at some of the horses we currently have available for rehoming. Your perfect companion could be waiting for you right now!
All our horses are rehomed on a permanent loan basis, so they remain the responsibility of The Positive Herd. We never sell horses on so that we can ensure they're always in loving, caring and understanding homes which will continue to meet their needs. This also gives you peace of mind that should anything happen, your horse will always be able to come back to us.
If you're thinking about adopting please contact us and let us know what you're looking for, and what your experience is. We are often in touch with other rescues or have horses on our waiting list, so may be able to pair you with a suitable horse sooner.
We ask that our adopters follow the horse's existing behavioural modification plans if they have any, and continue to keep them in line with our ethos of natural living and force free training. Once you've been paired with a horse you'll have the opportunity to meet them at our farm and have a free introductory session to get acquainted and learn about their needs.
Our adoption fee is £300 for a horse, which goes towards their rehabilitation and care, as well as the ongoing work we do.

Available Horses
Rhianne
REDUCED ADOPTION FEE Sex: Mare Breed: Arab Needs: Companion home only, on restricted grass/ good doer diet. Shetland companion! Information: Rhianne is very fearful of other horses and prefers the company of Shetlands. She is best suited to a home as a Shetland or small pony companion where someone will give her lots of gentle fuss, love and attention. She can be timid with people however has excelled in her positive training and started to come out of her shell. She's extremely gentle and kind natured, and loves spending time with the people she trusts. |
Sovereign
Sex: Mare Breed: Thoroughbred x Connemara Age: 18 years (Date of birth 25.05.04) Height: Approx. 15.1 hh Needs: Companion home only, on restricted grass/ good doer diet. Information: Sovereign was without a home after her owner sadly passed away, leaving behind 5 horses. One horse died before we could intervene, but we were able to rescue the other 4 before the land owner dispatched of them. Sovereign is a very sensitive and gentle soul, who takes a while to settle into new environments. She's deep and extremely intelligent, and bonds really strongly to people who she trusts. When she is happy within a herd she is an ideal companion for mares and geldings alike, and has been absolutely no problem in with our TLC herd at the farm. She bonds quite strongly to her friends, and can suffer separation anxiety, so would need an equine companion who wasn't going to be taken away a lot. She happily lives out all year and is an extremely good doer. She has completed a behavioural modification plan and is ready to find her forever home. |
Satchmo- REHOMED
Sex: Gelding Breed: Irish sports horse x trotter Age: 15 years (Date of Birth 12.07.2007) Height: Approx 16.2 Needs: Companion home only, needs good grazing and additional feed. Information: Satchmo is a beautiful, big horse who would make the perfect companion for a horse who needs more feeding, such as a TB type or veteran. He is incredibly well socialised and gentle with his equine companions once settled. Satch was relinquished as a behavioural referral, however you'd never know now. He's one of the most sweet natured and easy horses we've had. He is nervous of having rugs put on or adjusted, which we're working to resolve. He's more than happy grazing in a grassy field with his friends and having an easy life. He's previously had a suspensory injury, and has ongoing back problems, so we recommend he goes as a companion only. |
Skittles
Sex: Mare Breed: Irish sports x TB Age: 12 years (Born 2010) Height: Approx 15hh Needs: Companion home only, good grazing and additional feed. Information: Skittles is cute as a button and so sweet, you can't not love her. She's like a pocket sized TB, and a perfect little companion for good doers or veterans. Skittles is working through her rehabilitation and making great progress. She's gentle, affectionate and easy to handle as long as she isn't triggered. She came with some very challenging behaviour which has now been resolved. Most of her behaviour was due to pain and separation anxiety, and we're seeing a completely different pony now. She needs a permanent equine companion and an easy life. |
