Positive Livery With A Difference
We are proud to offer very limited spaces on our natural equine livery service, at our farm in Middlewich, Cheshire. Our service aims to meet the behavioural needs of your horse, as well as allowing you and your horse to fully benefit from an environment which advocates positive and ethical techniques. All of our training and handling practises are based on positive reinforcement training, and involve a force free approach. The horse’s living environments are designed to best meet their needs, allowing them constant access to friends, freedom and forage.
There is a BHSAI instructor, a qualified farrier and a qualified equine behaviourist on our team to ensure the continued well-being and welfare of your horse. Your horse will live alongside our rescue and sanctuary horses, managed in a way which promotes uttermost welfare. As a livery, you will also support the horses and activities at The Positive Herd Project, enabling us to help more horses and people!

What is included?
We offer livery packages to suit your individual requirements, from part to full and training livery. All horses have access to shelter in the form of shared barn space or field shelters for each herd, and use of individual stables as and when needed (on completion). We aim to allow the horses all year turnout or access to an outdoor space, whether that be paddocks or tracks or yard spaces in wetter weather. Our fields are maintained using a combination of track systems and Equicentral style paddocks. The horses live in permanent, stable herds which facilitates social behaviour, and also meets the individual needs of the horse. Manure samples are taken regularly for worm counts and all clients are issued with a full worming schedule. This approach eliminates the need to over-worm, benefiting the horse’s overall health and well-being and your peace of mind. All livery owners have access to shared storage areas, kitchen and toilet facilities.

Our Facilities
In July 2020 we secured the lease of a beautiful, old dairy farm in Middlewich, Cheshire. Our farm covers 23 acres and has loads of barn space for shared herd living, beautiful pasture for tracks and grazing and ponds for enrichment. We've got a block of stables ready and waiting to go up, and plans to develop our volunteer and therapy spaces.
We're currently in the process of refurbishing the farm, and have made huge progress in the time we've been here. We have renovated some of the old dairy to include a visitor kitchen, complete with dishwasher, fridge and tea making facilities. It is the most welcoming farm kitchen we've ever seen! There's a brand new toilet and ample hand washing facilities. In other side of the dairy we've created a covered wash space with hose and twin-tub washing machine, ideal for cleaning equipment or even your horse in all weathers. There is a beautiful, secure storage room which is shared by the liveries, and a separate storage space for The Positive Herd horses. In 2022 we completed our stunning new shop and office space, and have post and railed all boundary fences.
Overall we have 3 large barns available to separate herds of no more than 6 horses, who are matched in terms of their individual needs and temperaments. This huge, welcoming space is bedded down with straw beds in winter and sand in summer, allowing the horses a choice of surfaces and soft place to sleep. There is ad lib meadow hay and/or straw year round, fed in hay boxes and nets, and Himalayan salt licks provided. We also have 2 smaller yards for horses or ponies with grass intolerance/ EMS.
