As of April 2022 we are currently at full capacity for our rescue and rehoming horses. If you are in a desperate situation please get in touch, as we will always be able to offer a behavioural consultation with your horse. We can usually also take horses on emergency livery or place you on a waiting list- this is currently around 3 months wait.
Giving Up Your Horse
Relinquishing a horse should always be the absolute last resort. If you are struggling with your horses behaviour then we will offer a behavioural consultation first to assess the behaviour and put in strategies to try and resolve it. We always insist on a consultation prior to relinquishment, which is payable in advance. At the consultation we will discuss what steps might be best for you and your horse going forwards, and try to find the best solution for all parties.
If following the consultation you still think that relinquishment is the best solution, then we may be able to help. We have strict criteria about which horses we can take on, and which we cannot. Sometimes we are not able to take on additional horses as we're full, however in every case we will do our best to help. If horses are not appropriate for us we may refer to other rescue organisations or support the owner to find a home themselves. |
What is involved?
After you get in touch you'll be asked to complete our new client form and behavioural history questionnaire so that we can assess your horse and arrange the initial consultation. Your horse will need to be registered with a vet so that we can get veterinary referral prior to our visit. The initial consultation and assessment is £120.00 and payable separate.
Following the consultation, if it is decided that your horse is eligible for relinquishment and that is the best solution you will need to ensure the following criteria are met;
If these points are not addressed then the cost of the above will be added to the invoice prior to signing over. Transport can be arranged by the owner or by The Positive Herd Project CIC, at the owner's expense. Once the documentation has been signed and the horse moved then the owner relinquishes all rights to the horse, and the horse will remain the responsibility of The Positive Herd Project CIC for the rest of its life.
We ask a fee of £300 to take on any horse, which goes towards covering their initial costs and rehabilitation.

- They must be up to date on all routine vaccinations.
- They must have had their teeth done in the last 12 months.
- They need to be given a wormer or have a low manure worm count sample taken prior to moving (roundworm and redworm).
