In these uncertain times we would like to share some very positive news with you. The Positive Herd Project is extremely proud to announce that we have received funding from The National Lottery's Community Fund! We've been granted an incredible £9,948.00 which will enable us to provide Positive Pony Workshops for disadvantaged and vulnerable children, as well as outreach sessions to reach and benefit even more children in need! The one-day Positive Pony workshops have been created to give children the opportunity to spend a day learning about and interacting with horses in a safe and stimulating environment. The day’s activities combine interesting classroom based learning, group activities and practical hands-on sessions to ensure the children have an engaging and enjoyable experience. Spending time with horses has been proven to have emotional benefits to people, and many find it to be extremely therapeutic. Children from disadvantaged backgrounds do not have the same opportunities as their peers. They often face difficulties in their lives which create challenging emotions and behaviour. The Positive Pony Workshop gives these children the opportunity to indulge in a dream and passion that they may never have had chance to otherwise. The day is designed to be an enjoyable learning experience; children will get an introduction to horse behaviour, care, management, healthcare, handling and training. Additionally, as The Positive Herd advocates ethical and force free techniques the children will learn subtler skills that relate directly to everyday life; such as developing compassion and empathy, considering the views of others, learning about consent and choice, communication skills, emotional regulation and developing trusting relationships. In addition The Positive Herd Project aims to provide outreach sessions so that we can reach and help even more children. The outreach sessions kicked off in March 2020 and proved a huge hit with Cheshire Young Carers. The children were able to learn about horse behaviour, positive training techniques and enrichment. They took part in a range of stimulating activities allowing them to learn new skills through play. We're looking forward to continuing with the outreach sessions as soon as possible. We’re thrilled to have been given support from The National Lottery Community Fund which is made possible by players of The National Lottery. We cannot wait to get started with the workshops and outreach sessions as soon as possible. At these uncertain times it gives us something very positive to look forward to and work towards!
